Looking back on Brighton Pride 2024

4 Switchboard volunteers and guests hold signs that say "Love Has No Borders" and "Trans Kids Will Save The World". They wear Switchboard t-shirts, and two wear flags on their backs: the Lesbian Pride Flag and the Pride flag.

We loved taking part in the Brighton Pride parade this year! We really appreciated the opportunity to show up for LGBTQ+ rights, especially for LGBTQ+ refugees and for the TNBI community. Pride has always been an important way for our community to be loud, proud and visible. It was amazing to see 300,000+ people in the city supporting LGBTQ+ rights.

A huge thank you to Brighton and Hove Buses, who kindly let us join the parade on their fabulous Pride Bus.

Paul Hook, Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to once again join Brighton & Hove buses to mark Brighton Pride. The annual parade is an important focus for the LGBTQ+ population and for the city as a whole; and provides us an opportunity to celebrate Pride and remind people of the support, advice and information we offer to our community.”

The fundraising efforts for us over the Pride season have been brilliant to see – donations are a vital part of enabling us to continue the work we do. We’d particularly like to thank the following organisations:

  • Quarto’s DEI network for recently hosting a Pride event, raising an incredible £914.76 for us! This amount includes donations from the talented authors Dr Roxanne Gay and Dr Megan Pillow, who both generously donated their honorarium fees to us. Their co-authored book, Do the Work – A guide to understanding power and creating change, is available to buy on Quarto.
  • Seaford Head School, who raised an impressive £727.22 to support the work we do at Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard.
  • The lovely team at Permit Room Brighton and drag queen Linda Wicker for serving boozy slushies to raise money for us during Brighton Pride – they raised a total of £229.
  • Shutterly Fabulous, a long term supporter of Switchboard, for kindly donating £50 to us for every order received from customers with a BN postcode over August. Shutterly Fabulous are also offering a 30% discount for customers who enter the code ‘Switchboard 30’ in the message section when booking their free, no obligation on-site survey.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to us over the Pride season, whether you’ve made a one-off donation or you continue to donate monthly.

Switchboard has been supporting LGBTQ+ people across Sussex for almost 50 years – but we need donations from people like you to continue providing our services. If you’d like to financially support us, then please click here to donate – we’d be very grateful.
